This machine allows anyone to work for minimum wage for as long as they like. Turning the crank on the side releases one penny every 4.97 seconds, for a total of $7.25 per hour. This corresponds to minimum wage for a person in New York. This piece is brilliant on multiple levels, particularly as social commentary. Without a doubt, most people who started operating the machine for fun would quickly grow disheartened and stop when realizing just how little they’re earning by turning this mindless crank. A person would then conceivably realize that this is what nearly two million people in the United States do every day…at much harder jobs than turning a crank. This turns the piece into a simple, yet effective argument for raising the minimum wage.

god damn

~~~~~~~\(◎o◎)/ MY DAD AND I NEED HELP\(◎o◎)/~~~~~~~
(That’s me and my dad in the picture when I was little. We were cuties from the get go.)
A few years ago, my dad lost his full time job and money has been a tight issue every since. He has experience in nearly every job under the sun, and no one will hire him due to his age or other reasons. From that loss, there was no way to pay the mortgage, and in result, he had to file bankruptcy, and we will be kicked out of our house anywhere from 8 months - a year. To anyone with troubles like this, you know that this is a very short period of time.
Unfortunately, this has not been the only thing to plague us in our time of need. Near the beginning of this year, my mother walked out on us.
Now with bankruptcy and only one parent, there isn’t much keeping us afloat. My dad has two jobs, and one of them can only pay for the groceries. I have a job, but my hours are not guaranteed, and I only make minimum wage.
As a result from my mother leaving, my dad and I have planned to move back up to Indiana near family. We held garage sales at the beginning of this year to help us get there, and we raised nearly fifteen hundred dollars. The problem is, our funds to get there have been dipped into due to the bankruptcy and we are exactly where we were before the garage sales. We are literally saving money in an empty water jug in a closet to get to where we need to be.
I would never be doing this if there was another way, but we have tried about everything.
To help us out, my email is suwabble@gmail.com for paypal.
If you are able to donate anything, it would help us so so much. If you can’t, please reblog this and help spread the word. I hate that I have to resort to this, but we need just about anything we can get at this point.
Another thing you could do is check out my dad’s Water Filtration website: USA Filtration! (Need a filter to replace an old model, or maybe your parents do? Check it out! If you have any questions about the filters or the website, please ask me, and my dad and I will help! P.S. if you buy, please don’t refer to this post or anything I listed at the beginning. I want to keep his mind as far away from his troubles as I can.)
I also have an Etsy that is shared with one of my best friends, Tara. We only have two items up, but I will be putting more up over time, since I need to get rid of a lot of things before the move.
When you donate or help us out by purchasing from my dad’s store or the Etsy store, you will not just be helping my dad and I move to another state, but you will also be helping us find our way after we do.
My dad is the most hardworking, caring person I know, and to see him crushed that we are in this situation is the hardest thing in the world for me.
If you have any questions about the matter, please don’t hesitate to drop them in my ask box. Thank you guys so much for your time!
Thank you to everyone sharing this. Just an update on the situation.
There are a lot of lawyer and court things happening. Bankruptcy will take up to 2 months to finalize (if it is even finalized) and then my dad is going to look for a divorce lawyer (which I am very proud of him for doing)
This morning our van basically died. We got it back up and running to get to the store, but it may not last a lot longer. We cannot afford a new one or to fix the current one, so if that dies we will have to rely on my sister, and possibly me on my mom (which I refuse to do.) Things are hitting us left and right now and there is no way of avoiding it.
That being said, I am trying to figure out a way of offering services for cash on here, but I can’t draw or do much. The only things I am pretty good at is singing and making Animal Crossing towns look cool. If anyone has any ideas on how I could raise money please drop it in my ask box and let me know what you personally think would do well.
Again, thank you guys so much for spreading the word. I really really appreciate it.
Arturo is a 29-year-old male polar bear currently living in Argentina’s Mendoza Zoo. He is suffering in 40C (104F) heat in an enclosure that has just 20 inches of water for him to swim in and has as a consequence been displaying worrying behavior.
Please sign this petition or at least spread the word in order to have Arturo transferred to a zoo in Canada which has better facilities for an animal that is used to polar conditions.
There’s still a little over 10,000 signatures needed.
This was meant to be a quick warm up, but it turned into a comic that I’ve wanted to draw for a while. This is something that is extremely important to me, and I appreciate it if you read it.
A while ago, I heard a story that broke my heart. A family went a cat shelter to adopt. The daughter fell in love with a 3-legged cat. The father straight up said “absolutely not”. Because he was missing a leg. That cat was that close to having a family that loved him, but the missing leg held him back. Why?!
Many people have the initial instinct of “nope” when they see an imperfect animal. I get it, but less-adoptable does NOT mean less loveable. 9 out of 10 people will choose a kitten over an adult cat. And those 10% that would get an adult cat often overlook “different” animals.
All I want people to do is be open to the idea of having a “different” pet in their lives. Choose the pet that you fall in love with, but at least give all of them a fair shot at winning your heart.
Don’t dismiss them, they deserve a loving home just as much as any other cat. They still purr, they still love a warm lap, they still play, they still love you. Trust me, next time you are in the market for a new kitty, just go over to that one cat that’s missing an eye and see what he’s all about!
Let me tell to you a thing.
This is Lenore. I first saw her in a little cage at the Petco I frequent (I used to take my parents’ dog in for puppy play time), and she looked like the grouchiest, old, crotchety cat in the world, and I fell instantly in love. She was cranky, she was anti-social, hanging out at the back of her cage. Her fur was matted because she wouldn’t let the groomers near her.
She was perfect.
But I didn’t have a place for her. I wasn’t living in my own space yet, and where I was, I wasn’t allowed cats. So I pressed my face to the bars of her cage and I promised that if no one had adopted her by the time I’d bought a house, I would come back for her.
I visited her every week for over six months while I looked for a house. At one point, they had to just shave her entire rear-end because the mats or fur were so bad. They told me she clawed the heck outta the groomer that did it, screamed the entire time, and spent the next two days growling at anyone that came near the cage.
A couple of weeks later, I closed on my house. I went back and I got an employee, and I said: “That one. I need that cat.”
They got the paperwork and the lady who ran the rescue that was bringing the cats in told me that Lenore (at the time, Lila) was 8 years old, had been owned by an elderly lady who had died, and brought in to a different rescue, who’d had her for six months on top of the time I’d been seeing her at Petco.
This kitty had been living in a 3x3’ cube for over a YEAR because she was older and “less adoptable.”
I signed the paperwork, put her in a cat carrier, and drove her to my new home. I had pretty much nothing; a bed, an old couch, a couple of bookcases, and a tank of mice I called “Cat TV”. I let her out of the carrier and onto my bed, and I told her “I told you I would come back for you when I had a place. It’s not much, but it’s yours too now.”
Lenore spent the next three days straight purring non-stop. She followed me around the house purring. Sat next to me purring. Slept next to me purring. Leaning into every touch, purring, purring, always purring. She still purrs if you so much as think about petting her. She’s amazing, and I love her.
So, you know, if you’re thinking about adopting, and you see a beast that others consider “less adoptable,” think about Lenore.
FUCKING IMPORTANT
